The Story of a Ceiling Lift Making Care for One Child Easier and Fun

My family’s ceiling lift story centers around our youngest daughter, Emily. Emily was diagnosed with SMA 2 (a form of muscular dystrophy) when she was about six months old. When she was little, we could pick her up and carry her where she needed to go around the house. But after she turned twelve, my husband and I found that it really took a toll on our backs – and on Emily’s pride. She didn’t want us to carry her anymore.

That’s when we decided to invest in a ceiling lift. The people at Advent were great, and when it was finished, Emily was thrilled. She would joke that she was Peter Pan, and the ceiling lift was fairy dust. Hearing her laugh and seeing how much the lift helped her meant so much to our family. It was so nice just to see her happy again.
