Don't Wait Too Long | One Couple's Advice

Posted by mfreiberger in Home Improvement

Don't wait too long!

Remodeling came slowly for one couple

They began by widening the bathroom doorway in their 1956 ranch-style home, and ended up converting their single-car garage into a larger master bath with a custom-tiled, roll-in shower and roll-under sink. The garage was replaced with a custom-sized carport to accommodate a full-size accessible van.

A Client Made Our Day!

Posted by mfreiberger in Ramps

Every once in a while, a client makes our day by taking the time to let us know we have made a difference:

Dear Advent Home & Access,

I just want to thank you all for your kindness and hard work in providing an access ramp to my home.  It is wonderful to be able to exit and enter my home once again and to receive transportation easily.

Elevators Are the Next Step Up;  Conversions Gain in Popularity For Aging or Infirm Homeowners

The Washington Post / June 25, 2005 / Elizabeth Festa

The Washington region is "one of the largest growth areas we have right now," said Ray Varner, East Coast sales representative for Inclinator Co. of America, which bills itself as the oldest residential elevator manufacturer in America, dating from 1929. It can cost tens of thousands of dollars to add an elevator to a house. Still, Varner said, "prices of homes now on the East Coast have gravitated to the point where the elevator is not changing the cost of your mortgage to a great degree."

The Benefits of Residential Elevators

Posted by mfreiberger in Untagged

The Benefits of Residential Elevators

Residential elevators were a chosen amenity for 94,000 homeowners last year! These homeowners were among the ever-increasing number of individuals who recognize the benefits of solving or preventing a “vertical mobility challenge” through the use of an elevator. Elevators, whether intricate or simple in style, are a practical way to add functionality to any home, while incorporating the needs and tastes of the homeowners themselves.

Today’s home elevators are high quality, low maintenance and surprisingly affordable. They can be included in the plan for new construction or retrofitted into an existing home. The addition of a residential elevator is an ideal way to “age proof” any home, as it will make the space better accessible for those with physical disabilities.

How the NH Elevator and Accessibility Lift Law Affects You

How the NH Elevator and Accessibility Lift Law Affects You

Recently, I have been fielding an increased number of questions from Case Managers concerning the requirements and applications of the New Hampshire "Elevator and Accessibility Lift Law".   Since all elevators and accessibility lifts installed in New Hampshire must comply with this law, a working knowledge of its requirements is helpful for anyone involved in the process of providing this equipment to the disabled community.  In this post, I'll try to respond to the issues Case Managers have asked about.

The Access Equipment Alternative

The Access Equipment Alternative

I am constantly amazed (and saddened) at how many people entering their “Golden Years” just assume that they willl no longer be able to manage their multi-story house and that they will have to move to a single story home.

As an “access” professional at Advent Home & Access in New Hampshire, I spend a great deal of my time educating people on the access alternatives available to them, such as adding a
residential elevator, stairlift or platform wheelchair lift to their home.  Invariably, the cost/benefit ratio of retrofitting their existing home with a simple piece of access equipment far outweighs the emotional and financial stresses of moving.  The response is usually relief and often tears as they realize that with some simple and affordable modifications, they can continue to enjoy the comfort and familiarity of their existing home.
